Description
We were Design & Build Contractor for this project which saw the construction of 2 new college buildings on either side of the Strand Road at the entrance to the Strand Road Campus of North-West College.
To one side of the road is the 3400m² extension to the Lawrence Building and on the other side is the 5000m² Boating Club Lane Building. Alteration and refurbishment works were carried out to 1200m² of the existing occupied Lawrence building.
The 6-storey extension to the Lawrence building accommodates classrooms, offices, storage & staff accommodation, computer & IT facilities, open learning centre, lecture theatres, meeting & conference facilities, kitchens, changing room, toilet & shower facilities.
The new 6-storey Boating Club Lane building accommodates classrooms, laboratories, drama hall auditorium, offices, staff & student social areas, training studios, music practice rooms, recording studios, laundry, changing room, toilet & shower facilities, storage areas, canteen & servery & publicly accessible spaces.
A major feature of the development was the construction of a fully enclosed glazed walkway bridge between the two buildings.
The Project was also selected as a finalist in the CEF+Specify Construction Excellence Awards in the ‘Education Infrastructure’ and the ‘Achieving Excellence in Partnering’ Categories.
